Board Member Position: Clinician, Trauma-Informed Care

Mission/Vision: 

The Town Project is dedicated to creating a just and equitable society through the pursuit of social and restorative justice. We strive to empower marginalized communities, foster inclusivity, and advocate for systemic change. By promoting education, awareness, and dialogue, we aim to challenge oppressive systems, address inequities, and restore balance in our society. Our mission is to inspire compassion, promote reconciliation, and create opportunities for healing and transformation, ultimately paving the way for a more harmonious and equitable world. In order to accomplish this bold mission, we offer restorative justice training and conflict mediation services to schools and educational institutions. We are also in the process of developing community arts programming and a restorative justice facilitator internship program for young adults from 18 to 24 who are looking to develop their skills and gain more experience.

Position Description:

This  Board role will  focus on community art programming.  You will support the Executive Director in creating programming that will  integrate art as a powerful tool for collective healing and social change. Your creative vision and collaborative spirit will enrich our programs, engaging participants in transformative experiences that amplify voices, promote dialogue, and inspire meaningful action toward justice and equity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee community art programming initiatives that align with the Town Project’’s mission and goals
  • Support partnership development  with local artists, educators, and community organizations to facilitate workshops, exhibitions, and events that promote dialogue, healing, and social change
  • Provide guidance and support to integrate art-based practices into our restorative justice training programs for schools and youth
  • Advocate for the importance of art as a form of collective healing and transformation within our organization and the broader community
  • Help to cultivate funding opportunities to sustain and expand our community art programming efforts

Qualifications:

  • Background in community arts, fine arts, or related fields.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, preferably in a nonprofit or community-based organization
  • Passion for social justice, restorative justice, equity, and community empowerment
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to commit to a non-paid Board position for a minimum of two years
  • Board of Directors experience (preferred but not required)

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month, including board meetings, committee work, and fundraising activities.

Location: Remote/virtual; occasional in-person meetings in Oakland, CA.
